CHAPTER VII
Trance séances - 1 -

André had set up a circle that held séances from time to time.
He would invite various people for those evenings. Many of them would return home feeling strengthened in body and soul.
Alcar always addressed those present through him.

He always made sure that the room reserved for the séances was filled with flowers. Even if these weren’t as beautiful as those on the side beyond, he was still convinced that they would please the spirits that came to him.
Incense was burnt while he and the guests all waited in humble anticipation.

He also held many beautiful drawing and painting séances.
Nobody ever knew beforehand what would happen, so they were always curious what they would get to see.
He had already received some beautiful pieces of work, though he had never taken any lessons in either drawing or painting.
This all happened without his knowledge, he was merely the instrument.
Yet there were always some who took it all for granted. It was completely lost on them.
It meant nothing special to them, and what he himself went through wasn’t worth a second thought.
He regretted that, he would have liked them to pursue the matter and think it over. It might put them on the right track and link them up with the Hereafter.

When he went into a trance, his spirit parted from his body and his organism was then taken over by an intelligence.
Wasn’t this something to set people thinking? After all, this was something special.
It proved beyond any doubt that dead is not dead, and that those who died here on earth live on and can even produce beautiful paintings and lots of other things.

They took notice of the pieces of work, but people soon forgot how they had come about.
It was their inability to see behind the veil, like he could.
So he couldn’t really blame them or be angry at them.
He ought to feel superior to all that, Alcar had said, and he shouldn’t let himself get hurt by anyone.
To him everything was sacred, because it had its origin on the side beyond, and the gifts he possessed had come from God.

He didn’t care what people said, and so he kept on giving them the chance to experience these things.
Yes, it was miraculous. He had no skilled knowledge, and yet everyone had to admit that these were works of art.
He found that people were very earthly, without any sense for the spiritual aspect.

He had to be careful about these people.
They misunderstood him, although he was always honest.
Quite a few took advantage of him.
It saddened his heart.

You could never express all the good feelings you felt within, you had to shut them off.

Alcar said that many people wore a mask and didn’t show their real selves. He ought to watch out for that.
Recently someone had spread the rumour that he bought these pieces in some other town.
That’s what people were like.
Even if they saw things with their own eyes, there would still be some who couldn’t or wouldn’t believe it.
He would try to convince them in another way by giving them fantastic proof, but it was often in vain, and those poor souls would remain doubting Thomasses forever.

They were often dissatisfied when he passed on the messages he received just as Alcar had phrased them.
They expected something different, something more material, but Alcar only gave things from a spiritual aspect, and very often that wasn’t to their liking.
What they were told was difficult to digest. It meant strife, and they lacked courage.
They knew best.

Help was lost on that kind of people, and advice too, because they hadn’t the courage to walk the spiritual way.
Their path ran through matter. They loved material things, it was so much easier.
He found it difficult to remain friends with this kind of people.
He could have made any amount of friends, as long as he did what they wanted.
Of course he would never do that.
They couldn’t understand that all his thoughts should centre on his spiritual work and on Alcar.
Any attention he paid to them would take him away from his work, for the mere sake of some triviality that was foremost in their worldly minds. It might have their interest, but not his.

He had to follow his leader scrupulously, and dedicate himself entirely to his gifts.
He wanted to free himself from matter as best he could, and make good use of the years which still lay ahead of him on earth.
Every day was precious to him.

They didn’t think that way, so the things that lay hidden behind the veil remained a mystery to them.
It didn’t get through to them that he hadn’t received his gifts without a cause.
They always misinterpreted or misunderstood him when he talked about these things, and they blamed him for not fitting in. Then the friendship would wane because he didn’t comply with other people’s wishes.

He was a lonesome figure, and life became a burden.
But there was one whom he could always turn to: Alcar, the friend whom he could trust, and who was his leader and master in all things.

Alcar was continually at his side and always understood him.
Alcar knew how he felt inside, how he meant things, and that he loved the people.
He often said: ‘ Be strong, André, people don’t want to understand you.
They won’t take the trouble, and they’ll try to draw you over to their side.
Beware of that, or else others will lead your life for you, instead of you living your own life.’

He often knew gloomy days. They were hard to handle, and he’d be at odds with everyone.
He would sit and ponder the situation, and Alcar would have to come and raise him up again.
He could fathom people when he felt that way.
He could read them like a book and sense what they were at.
It made him feel all sad inside.
Oh, how difficult life was for him in such moments.
He saw and felt how evil people could be, and he longed to be where Alcar was.
Oh, whatever would happen if Alcar didn’t cheer him up...
But he knew he could rely on that.

People needed to read into each other’s hearts before they would believe him.
He had seen and experienced enough to know that.
They never got their fill, they always claimed more.
They would never face you openly.
This all happened on the quiet, behind your back.

When people didn’t understand the spiritual work he did, they would say he was imagining things, and that would set the rumours going, not openly, but behind masks which no-one could penetrate.
Yet he saw through all of them.
Alcar had developed him to a level where he could see and feel this.
People did everything on the quiet, and before he knew he would catch a dressingdown that made his heart bleed.
And yet he would have to stand up to it, Alcar had said, because they knew no better.
And he felt he could now, for he spent a lot of time in the spheres. That’s where his thoughts roamed constantly.
His physical part remained on earth, but his spirit was up there, where harmony prevailed, and happiness too.
How overjoyed he would be, together with Alcar, after he had died.
That’s why he had to fight this battle.
He had often prayed that he might die, because he longed to remain forever where at present only occasional visits were allowed: the happy sphere, where constant harmony is found, to stay with those who are in the light.
Over there you can speak your mind to everyone, and your words aren’t misconstrued.
Promises are kept, and everyone is honest and true.
On earth idle tales are told ‘in confidence’ to any willing ear.

This happens in the dark spheres too, as Alcar said, but you know this beforehand and you can bear it in mind.
The spirits that dwell there can’t be trusted, they live in darkness and bleakness.
Those who ‘confide’ in others would find out how trust is betrayed in the dark spheres.
On earth your body prevents you from seeing through your fellowman, but once you arrive in the Hereafter and are stripped of your material body, the spirit can no longer hide from others.

Up in the higher spheres great trust is put in everything. Without this trust you wouldn’t belong there, nor would you be able to stand it because you wouldn’t be tuned in to it.
The light which one possesses in the spheres would also be too much to bear.
Over there people are like open books to one another, because you read each other’s thoughts.
You lead an honest and decent life, in perfect harmony.
On earth this seems impossible.
And yet that is where we’re heading for.
On earth matter covers everything spiritual, the good qualities included.
And if these must be continually suppressed, then the courage to express your opinion or to show your real self is lost.
During all of life on earth you have to hide your innermost feelings.
Why is this necessary?
Why?
If you don’t, you’re faced with opposition from all sides, no matter how well you behave.
Hatred and jealousy are behind it all the time.
Whenever he saw people as they really were, something inside of him would smile; it did him good, because then he was aware of their intentions.
He felt prepared and it enabled him to protect himself against evil influences.
Never did he exploit what he read in people’s minds; it would have kept him busy for days on end.
He simply took no notice, but he complied with their wishes as much as he could.
It made him feel superior to them, whereas they believed he didn’t sense this.
He let them have their way as long as they kept their limits.
He knew Alcar would warn him in time.

Once he had visited a big city abroad, where war had raged some years ago and heavy battles had been fought.
His friends seemed unperturbed, but he was unable to feel happy in that place.
All the sorrow and the sadness, all the suffering and the grief of former days weighed him down.
The impact of the hatred and the fury made him feel sick.
It was dreadful in that town, and he was appalled how insensitive all those thousands of people were to it.
He felt utterly miserable. He saw the soldiers wandering through the streets, not as physical beings but as spirits.
They were still fighting and just couldn’t stop because of the hatred that consumed them.
His spiritual eyes made him see all the misery, and no matter how he tried, he couldn’t withdraw from it,.

It was a beautiful town so they said, but he felt as if he were choking, although nobody noticed.
He clearly saw the soldiers marching by in their various uniforms, all of them wild and savage.
It was a real war; to him everything appeared to happen as if it were true. He heard them cursing and swearing, and shouting: ‘Murder, murder.’
What had people achieved with that war?
Nothing but untold misery.
People were incited against each other.
Woe betide those who are guilty of that, those stupid people; something terrible awaits them.
Millions will be waiting for them once they pass over into the Hereafter.
They will just have to pray a lot, a great deal, when they are still on earth, so that God can protect them from these demons, even if they also belong amongst them.
Because it are demons who are waiting for them because they caused them all that suffering and all that sorrow.
He also had deep sympathy for those who had such a crime on their conscience, because they will not escape their punishment and cannot pay for the crime for the time being.
He distinctly saw all those poor spirits and the blood too that flowed through the streets and stained everything in its course.
Yet everyone was happy and nothing seemed to bother them.
He felt and saw the dead, so he knew that it hadn’t ended yet, but that they were still fighting on.
Even now, after they had left their material body behind.
Physical eyes could not perceive this.
He wanted to flee, far away from this evil town.
He could no longer be lighthearted and cheerful.

His friends thought he was strange and couldn’t understand his sad mood. Why wasn’t he interested in the things around and enjoying himself?
This hurt him, and he felt sorry for them because he didn’t want to offend them. Yet he couldn’t tell them anything, because he was afraid they would laugh at him.
Oh, this was hopeless.
What should he say?
After all, they weren’t aware of it, and they would ask him why he should brood over all that misery.
To them this all belonged to the past.
Yes, of course it belonged to the past, at least for physical eyes, and yet he was being forced to see it, feel it and experience it, just as it had all happened in reality.
The world as it basically was. It opened his eyes to the curse that war laid on mankind.
Who gave any thought to the innumerable victims, the so-called dead, who aren’t dead but were suddenly torn out of their physical bodies and thrust into the Hereafter, where they kept on fighting as spirits because they couldn’t be brought to their senses.
Spiritually it made the world fall back for centuries.
And what about the victims who still lived on earth, the wounded, those poor handicapped and mutilated, who were blind or had lost arms or legs? They went unnoticed.
They populated the streets, and he had seen hundreds of people pass them by without a pittance.
Where was their charity?
Couldn’t these people part with anything at all?
Were they without means?
A few pennies would suffice.
A fair amount of small fry would see them through.
After all, it was the war that had turned these poor men into invalids.
He had felt the hurt, and there was no way he could enjoy himself amidst all that misery, amidst all those cold-hearted people who didn’t carry the smallest spark of light.

He had gone over to one of these poor fellows and had given him all the money he had on him. He didn’t remember how much.
It might have been twenty or thirty francs or more.
That poor maimed soldier had been dumbfounded!
He simply couldn’t believe his eyes.

André heard an inner voice tell him that he had done right.
It had been a lovely feeling.
It had been the only bright spot in that dark town.
And when he walked on, the invalid had raised his crutches to thank him.
‘Have yourself a treat today, you’re welcome to it’, he had called out to the poor fellow.
Tears of joy had been in the soldier’s eyes. André hadn’t been able to stand it any more and had flown.
But afterwards he had felt a short touch of happiness because of the poor soldier’s luck.

They were everywhere, these poor people, but he had nothing left to give them.
Their faces were drawn and showed deep sorrow and misery.
He couldn’t bear to look.
How could anyone sit at a restaurant window with a tasty meal in front of him, in full view of one of those poor invalids on the opposite side of the street.
He hadn’t been able to, he had felt a lump in his throat.
Yet many did and never even noticed anyone standing outside.
Nor did they hear the curse that penetrated the place.
There stood their brother, who had fought at their side but now had nothing to eat. He had to stay outside in the rain and the wind while they sat feasting themselves inside.
That’s life, that’s mankind for you!

He had written home how totally unhappy he felt in this beautiful city where he saw nothing but misery and sorrow.
How was he supposed to gather new impressions and gain strength again, while everything around him wracked his nerves?
He had made up his mind: never in his life on earth would he ever set foot in that city again.

Hardly had they left town on the way back, when strangely enough all the sadness was taken away from him.
Out in the country, away from that dark atmosphere, he had felt relieved and able to breathe freely, and he was cheerful and happy again.

The Hereafter, with its spheres of light where everything stands for harmony and happiness, beats the darkened earth by far, there’s no doubt about that.
Most people are afraid of death, they’re scared to die.
But there is no need for that once you realize how happy you can be in the spheres, and you’re prepared to appear before God’s throne.
But this doesn’t dawn on those who aim for happiness in the material things of daily life.
They are impervious to it and therefore don’t accept it as the truth, until the time that they too become convinced of the value of a higher life.
It will give them a completely new view on life on earth, and they will judge their fellow humans differently.

The things they say!
The war had ended, so the invalids around were beggars putting on an act.
But what he had seen was no act, it was nothing to laugh at, it was a living tragedy and they weren’t beggars either, they were poor handicapped people who were unjustly lumped together with bad characters.

Alcar had told him that he had shown him all this misery to make him even more aware how bad the inhabitants of earth are.

He preferred to be in his room, between all the paintings which he had received from the side beyond.
There he saw the spheres when Alcar linked him up with them, and the great light too, that was no longer visible in that city.
That’s where he was happy with his leader, as in the country side where gloomy moods soon passed away.

After his arrival home he had told many people what he had seen, but it didn’t seem to trouble them. He had expected that.
They couldn’t really believe his story nor any other of the invisible truths he had seen and gone through.

Alcar told him that it might take ages before these unfortunate spirits would find peace.
This is what war brings on, and when it’s over everything is forgotten, on earth anyway, and it soon loses its sting because people cannot or dare not look the consequences in the eye.
One war hardly comes to an end before the next one is in the making, causing even greater damage and disaster.

‘Why can’t you humans come to your senses?
What’s the purpose of it all?
Decide for yourselves why you need to murder your brothers’, Alcar said.

People’s feelings go out to matter and to nothing else.
They’re tuned in to it and they idolize it.

The works of art in that city were beautiful, but even the most precious objects lose their value when they are stripped of spiritual energy.
This is something people don’t want to understand, nor do they see it, just as they don’t see that the world is sick.
They have no feeling for these things, nor do they want to feel them.

Alcar said that the earth is sick and bad, and that the mankind is mentally ill.
That’s even worse than suffering from the most dreaded disease.
They have lost all feeling and all the light within.

The bad influence almost made André choke.
This had nothing in common with the influence his spiritual friends brought down to earth. That was sacred and pure.
But on earth things are stripped of light and warmth, and passion prevails wherever you go.
Where was the real love that Christ had once spread?
It has become unknown, and what you meet is self-love.
People were reckless, he thought. They didn’t even notice that they often toyed around with the sacred fire of love as if it were a plaything.
Some day people will find out that they had trifled with true love. It will really make them suffer, and they will repent.
But before long they’re at it again in a way that will cause blood and tears to many.
That’s how cruel people can be.

He just couldn’t imagine why they didn’t want to show more understanding towards each other.
Didn’t they know that love is God’s greatest creation, and that they could tune in to all those beautiful things that stand for happiness if they would only follow the road leading upward?

It made him shiver to meet such people.
To him sacred love meant eternal happiness.
He got annoyed when people came to him who wanted to take part in a séance for kicks or just to pass the time away, and then left without a second thought.

That kind of people would attend a painting evening or a séance in which Alcar spoke through him, and soon forget all about it because they had no eye for the sanctity and no feeling for the support and the happiness it could give them.
These were people who spoilt things wherever they went.
But to him this work was sacred. He fought, like thousands of others, for the great cause: to convince the people of the truth of a life after physical death.

Alcar always warned him against those who refused to believe.
‘Beware of them’, he said, ‘because they are a danger to our work.
Shut yourself off from these beings, I will help you to.
Our pure knowledge will enable you to answer them.
We see and know the state of every soul.
We see through them all.’

He was afraid of these people and kept them at a distance.

Not long ago he had held a wonderful painting séance and many had attended.

Alcar had told him to buy a large canvas which was intended for a German marine painter who had been killed in the war, and now he wished to paint through him.

He had bought the canvas, measuring 0.90 by 1.50 metres, along with paint and utensils, and he was curious what that large canvas would bring forth.

He always held these séances in the afternoon. This wasn’t strictly necessary, because drawings had already been produced in the dark without any loss to the frequently beautiful technique.

Before he was brought into a trance he had to pray. Then he seated himself before the easel and waited for the things to come.
The intelligences never kept them waiting, and within seconds he was in a trance. Then his spirit abandoned his physical body, and a spiritual painter then took control of it.

The guests had all arrived punctually, and that afternoon there were a few artists amongst them.
The painter who came through composed the picture with an amazing technique.

This was very interesting to all those present because, as both the painters said, such a technique could only have been mastered by someone who had really studied it.

The work took two hours to accomplish. It showed a sea with rocks and it was titled: ‘On the Irish coast’.
André’s spirit then returned to his body.
But not long afterwards Alcar put him into a trance again and told the guests:

‘As you see, my beloved, it’s possible for us, after our physical death, to work on earth.
This beautiful piece of work was made by a German painter, named Erich Wolff.
This young artist, who was killed in the last world war*), painted on the Scottish and the Irish coast during his earthly life.

Many relatives send you their greetings. God bless you all.’

The séance had come to its end.

Some time later more pieces from this painter came through to him.
One of them had been particularly realistic.
It was titled: ‘On the Scottish coast’.

Alcar gave it to one of André’s friends.
He had done work for Alcar without knowing the purpose.
It had all been Guidance.
After Wolff had finished the painting he showed André clairvoyantly how and where the ships sailed around that coast.

He mentioned this when he took the painting over to his friend, which the latter found very interesting.
It was a remarkable mass of rocks, seen on a beautiful summer evening, with two long peaks that were surrounded by the sea.

The painting had been on the wall for some time, when a brother-in-law, an engineer in the merchant navy, came to visit him and on entering the room immediately recognized the Scottish coast.
‘How did you come by this Scottish coast?’ he asked.
‘Did you buy the painting in England?’

But André’s friend just laughed and let him continue.

‘This is the way we sail around the coast’, the seaman told him, while he indicated the direction, ‘when we’re bound for Holland.
These peaks are visible from afar and we often take our bearings from them.
On board we say: ‘The peaks are in sight.’
It’s a striking piece of work, painted true to life.’

After his visitor had had his say, André’s friend told him that it had been received by a medium who first of all couldn’t paint under normal circumstances and secondly when he did, he was unaware of this as he did it in a trance and thirdly had never seen or visited either Scotland, Ireland or England before.

The seaman thought this was extraordinary and he kept on looking at the beautiful picture for quite a while.

This proved once more that someone else had done the work.
That it hadn’t been André who had accomplished this, but another person who made use of his organism.

Wolff made six large paintings for him in this way, all of them masterpieces.

André was happy, very happy with his gifts and with all his work.
That is why he wanted people to pursue this in greater depth.
They considered this kind of work to be devil’s work.
So Alcar, Wolff and the other spirits were supposed to be devils?

No?
Up to now he had got to know them as spirits of love.
Recently he had received a wonderful example of Alcar’s protection, and how sparingly his gifts were put to use.

André felt ill, he had caught a bad cold.
Nevertheless he had done his work that day, though he longed for his bed.
Towards the evening he developed a high temperature and intended going to bed soon, but to his dismay Alcar conveyed a message at seven o’clock that he wanted to paint.

André said to himself: ‘For heaven’s sake, I’m ill.’ But he immediately heard Alcar for the second time saying: ‘Make sure to be ready around eight o’clock. We’re going to paint, André!’

It was no good sighing.
Alcar wanted something, so it must be all right.

When he told his parents, they were rather surprised and advised him strongly not to fulfil this wish.
How could he ever paint with a sick body?

He was in doubt, and his parents finally persuaded him to refuse, so he decided to go to bed.

But what nobody had expected happened.

Suddenly he was put under an influence, went into a trance, and Alcar spoke to his parents through him: ‘You see, my beloved, there’s no limit to what we can achieve if we really want to.
This evening I myself am going to paint, and you won’t understand until afterwards why I chose this very moment to take possession of his body.’

He went up to André’s room, got everything ready and started to paint.
André remained in a trance from a quarter to eight until nearly ten o’clock and when he awoke he immediately sensed that the fever and the illness had gone.
This was marvellous to him and he hurried to his father and mother to tell them about it.

A little later Alcar said to him:

‘The flowers I painted aren’t very good.
I intended to make you feel better and I succeeded completely.
There was no better way to go about this than by taking possession of your body.
So you see, my son: always give yourself, always trust me.
Your physical body is under my protection.
I keep watching over you.’

That evening André wept for happiness and gratitude that the spirits were so good to him, and his parents also thanked Alcar in their prayer for the great help and for the marvellous proof they had received from him.

This was pure and perfect love, spiritual love from on high.

He thought of all the people he had been able to convince, due to the proof which Alcar had given them.
Then shouldn’t this sacred cause be guarded scrupulously?
Weren’t they good devils?
Weren’t they devils who loved mankind?
No stone was left unturned to provide them with proof, to convince them of a life after their physical death.
Spiritualism and everything connected to it was a sacred thing to him.
Those who work behind the scenes, expecting no words of gratitude, they’ll do anything to bring happiness and truth to the people.
Then shouldn’t one kneel down humbly and except everything gratefully?
After all, they want the people to be happy!
No, they are no devils, these spirits of love, although the people on earth, in their would-be wisdom repeatedly believe they are.
They think that their worldly wisdom will suffice to understand spiritual things, and that’s a fallacy.
They need to be attuned to it deep inside to sense this, but they have become too materialized.
Worldly wisdom is not a spiritual power and the two have nothing in common.
As if we weren’t all equal before God!

Does a king necessarily have a higher spiritual status on earth than a carpenter?
No, of course not.
Yet this is current opinion.

He had often seen so-called important persons come through in séances. There were scholars amongst them, even theologians, who proved to be deeply unhappy and begged for help.
Only then had they grasped the beauty of spiritualism.
All their studies and their wisdom hadn’t brought them one inch further on the spiritual path.
They hadn’t practised what they preached.
Yet some learned men had found light and happiness on the side beyond. They had lived a better life on earth. They had not forgotten God and had served their fellow men.
That was the goodness they bore within, as God expected of them.
These people wore no masks as others did, for whom a certain day will also dawn on the side beyond.
There all masks are dropped and they will stand naked and devoid of power.
But on earth they are the ones who spoil everything, and against whom Alcar kept on warning him.

This was bad enough, but there was worse. Those who foul up things under the pretext of spirituality are lost.
They erect a spiritual wall around themselves and shoot their material arrows off from there, aiming to hit honest, simple folk.
That’s what their masks cover up on earth.
A life under the guise of spirituality.
To them everything is a mere pastime.
Spiritual work is too sacred for that.
But their hearts are cold, and remain cold towards everything, and beauty never shows through in them.
The Divine Spark that could attune them to the higher spheres and to everything that carries beauty no longer glows in them. Its fire has perished; it expired like a candle in the night.

He had experienced a lot of strife at the hands of such people and now, at this stage, he understood their aims and played around with them. He had acquired the power to do so.

He now saw through everyone.
Alcar had brought him to that level and had developed his spiritual sense.
That is what these people lack, for they fall back into their material world time and again.
Yet Alcar still wanted him to give himself; everyone should get his fair share, since those who were honest also came to him.

‘Feel that you’re superior to all that’, Alcar said, ‘and don’t close off your heart to the good ones.
You will soon be able to sense when an open heart comes your way, because that heart will shine you in the face.
Always be prepared, no matter how big the battle may be. Fighting will toughen you.
So have faith, we’re at your side and will remain your invisible helpers.’

Alcar often talked to him in this way and it did him good because sometimes things overwhelmed him, and now and again worries and sadness almost prevented him from going on.
People kept on wanting more until everything lost its value for them in the end.

What would happen tonight?
Maybe they’d think the world of him today, but they would dish him again tomorrow.
But come what may, he would be prepared.

Alcar and his friends never did that.
They are fine and pure in their answers.
They never hurt anyone and always follow one way only: the path of love.
They have only their task in mind: to work for spiritualism.
The people don’t understand even half of it, nor do they nor want to learn from it, in spite of the beautiful lessons they receive.
Yet they receive them for their own good, because it will help them to develop.

Contact with those who have died on earth isn’t made to get a thrill out of it.
That’s not what the spirit world is after.
Mankind must advance and rise, and get on the road to God.
But halfway up they’re exhausted and fall back to the stage where life becomes easy for them again.
It takes no trouble, the going is smooth.
So they muddle on; life is brought to completion and amounts to no more than a bag of worldly pleasures.

His gloomy mood still persisted, but it gave him a better understanding of the enormous sorrow which Christ suffered.

Christ had given Himself for the people.
He kept on giving, more and more, until He could no longer give, and then they beat Him up.
Christ let them have their way, and it got worse still because they wanted even more.
They wanted His Flesh and Blood.
And not until He was nailed to the cross, did the people see Him as the true child of God.
When the clouds tore apart and God’s light appeared, all those people saw the simple man He really was Who had aspired to give Himself completely.

Christ was the son of a carpenter too, but He had much greater powers than André.
Christ performed miracles.
Christ was the Great Spirit.
He, André, performed miracles on a small scale.
Yet he was allowed to do the same work, and to heal the sick too.
But he couldn’t make the blind see, as Christ had done, because he was merely an imperfect human being, a man with many mistakes.

Christ was the Perfect human being, He was the Son of God, Who had given all of Himself for the sake of the people. And yet they crucified Him.

Soon that great miracle was forgotten, and they kept on sinning on without end.

When he was in a sad, gloomy mood he felt full of understanding for the suffering that Christ had gone through. He sensed it in full.
Christ, the simple heart, tortured and flogged by his brothers and sisters.
His blood had flowed, and still it hadn’t been enough.
That’s what people are like.

Alcar had held Jesus up as his example and had told him:

‘Don’t worry and do your work, André.
Be prepared for all that may come, and take Him, Who suffered for all of us as your example.
You’re doing the same kind of work, my son, only on a smaller scale, and don’t try to compare yourself to Him.
Be satisfied with this happiness, and keep right on to this road.’

He had a lot to learn; he knew it, and learn he would, his whole life-long stay on earth.

Once he had felt the same great satisfaction which Christ must have felt, and it made him understand things even more.

He had been called over to a small child of nine months, seriously ill with a high temperature, that lay in its cradle, deathly quiet.
He didn’t know how it had happened and he didn’t want to be pretentious, but when he was standing at the cradle he had said to the parents: ‘Now I will show you how Christ healed.’

They gave him a strange look but said nothing; the situation was far too serious for that.
He knelt down and prayed ardently, as he always did when he had to treat a patient.
He begged God and Christ for help and prayed: ‘Give your emissaries the power to help me with this beautiful work.
Oh Jesus, help me.
In Your name I want to heal this little one just as You did.’

Suddenly – he would never forget this wondrous, great moment – his arm was lifted slightly by a strange force and brought to the child’s head, while a marvellous feeling of great happiness flowed through him.
After a few minutes his arm was led back, and straight afterwards the little one opened its eyes and started to laugh and cry out and kick about, and it was healed.

The parents looked at him full of admiration and tears came to their eyes.

Oh, what a day that had been!
What a miracle this was!

Alcar told him: ‘Because of your great love for Christ and for us you were allowed to do this.’

He felt as if he were in heaven.

In his prayers he always asked for help, but he understood quite well that he wasn’t able to perform instantaneous healings with every patient. It would have required him to be Christ’s equal, and that was something he couldn’t be, not in a thousand years.
For him it was a sacred commitment always to be ready to receive the flux from on high and to convey this to the sick.

He had laid his hands on the child’s head and it had been healed.
That’s how Christ had done it too during His life on earth.
True enough: he, André, wouldn’t be flogged, but he could be locked up in prison because he wasn’t a qualified doctor, and according to worldly laws he had no right to practise medicine.
Many centuries ago Christ had been the Perfect Human Being on earth, but never again will Christ reappear on earth to sacrifice Himself for humanity, because after all these hundreds of years Jesus is still not understood.

He spent that whole day pondering on these things.
He couldn’t get it out of his mind, and he was tired of all the thinking.
This had to stop, for the guests had already arrived and the séance was about to start.
He could count on Alcar to give him all the energy he needed, as always.
The séance started.
First many messages were received with the help of a cross and a board. There was something in it for everybody, and many renewed their contacts with members of their family or with friends they had temporarily lost.
It gave them strength, spiritual strength, and they were happy to get in touch with their loved ones.
How beautiful it was!

After this part of the séance there was a short interval, and then Alcar put him into a trance and, in a clear voice, addressed the following words to the guests:

‘Good evening, my sisters and brothers, today I want to talk to you about the human clock.

I’m able to help you, and I will do so.
I really want to help you, but how?
Many many times, again and again, I told you: I want to help you, if it’s God’s will.
You’re listening attentively to me now, to everything I’m going to say; you’re familiair with all of it, and have been for quite some time.
That doesn’t alter the fact that, even if you know it all and even if you think it over now and again, you, with your human thoughts, don’t always act accordingly.
Tick-tack, up and down, that’s time.
That is the pendulum on the clock.
Clock-like regularity: Tick-tack, tick-tack. Incessantly: tick-tack.
You think your life will keep on going with the same regularity as the clock that the clockmaker winds.
But does life continue on this smooth, regular round for everyone?
Does it hold for everyone, this tick-tack-tick of day-to-day worries, activities and tasks?
Or does it contain a sound you do not hear?
Doesn’t it contain a certain sound you’re aware of and which distinguishes you, human beings, from that daily monotonous ticking of the clock?
Isn’t it precisely that Divine Spark in you which sets you off and places you above all mechanical gadgets?
And doesn’t that Divine Spark contain the Divine Power of Love?
Isn’t it precisely that quality which people call love that makes life worth living and worth experiencing?
Isn’t that the most beautiful, the richest and most Divine aspect of man?
Everyone yearns for it, from a small child onward. I dare to say: even before birth there is that yearning for love.
And this love grows, and this love increases in beauty, it gets stronger and will move mountains.
Without this love life would be a wilderness.

Those who know love are the happy ones.
Those who have known love keep on carrying it in their hearts, and those who never knew love are happy when they feel that great power within, that great, holy power, the sanctity of what they would be able to give.
Do you understand that, my friends?
Do you feel that, my friends?
That your life could be a life that is led by thought?
How much could you give?
Let that which is in you be the most beautiful and the most sacred you possess, yes indeed: the sacrosanct, forever.

Did I tell you anything new this evening?
Weren’t you familiar with all this since quite a time?
And yet I wonder: didn’t I help you, didn’t I shake you awake a bit, and reveal to you the multitude and the beauty that is within man, which sets him apart from the machine?
And if God in His abundant goodness lets you feel this love during your life on earth, then be confident, my friends.
Never forget: it’s God’s will that such love prevails and that such a link of love exists.
Could it ever be the will of God that such a link be broken?
I tell you: No!
Then put all your trust in a life of sanctified love, and let life’s little clock keep on ticking confidently.
It is God’s will.
Some day the machine meets its end, it’s worn away and spent.
Then life’s clock stops ticking.
No more tick-tack to be heard, and you miss it.
You are left with a void and with great sadness because of that loyal friend, that faithful soul you dearly loved.
That faithful soul who supported you, whom you supported, who helped you, whom you helped, whom you gave love and who loved you, who is missed on earth so much.
Then, since you don’t believe in the Hereafter, emptiness comes into your life.
And when that little clock no longer strikes and ticks, then remember all the love this person radiated.
The abundant love he gave, and the abundant love he wanted to give yet couldn’t, because you, human being, with your human thoughts neither understood him nor felt the love he wanted to give to you.
You never saw the hands that offered it and which you pushed away unthinkingly.
You can help him a lot with your prayer to God, in which you ask to be forgiven for not wanting to see so much love.
You can ask Him in your prayer to let His light shine on the soul who gave so much love, or wanted to.
You can ask for his sins to be forgiven, because everyone sins, knowingly or not.
A person sins because he’s only human.
And when the time has come that it pleases God to stop your pendulum from swinging, then may many be around for you too, to send a prayer up to God that you may soon be brought into the light.
Trust in God, trust in God’s love and believe in your own love.
Amen.’

Alcar had finished speaking and had quietly left.

It had been a beautiful séance, and everyone felt how they were treading sacred ground.
Everyone was happy.

Oh, that beautiful magnificent truth that we will soon be allowed to live in the Hereafter forever more!

The evening had come to an end.
The guests went home and asked if they could be present at the following sessions to hear this beautiful, melodious voice again that had spoken to them with so much love.

A few days later Alcar already announced that he wanted to hold another séance, and André then invited some more people, so that the circle became even larger than last time.

Everyone needed the spiritual support and energy that the side beyond bestowed on them.

His father and mother were also able to help him now, because the prediction he had passed on to his father had come true in the way Alcar had revealed it to him in the very beginning.

That evening many came in contact again with their dear ones who already dwelt on the other side, and the pieces of evidence were overwhelming.
Everything testified to truth and love.
These were things you could count on, this was pure knowledge.
It was beautiful!
There was no need to call up the dead, they came of their own accord and spoke to those whom they had left behind.
No more doubt left, they knew that the dead live on.
The beautiful lessons they gave were free from self-love and selfishness.
Everything that came through was pure.
That’s how they who preceded them sent their messages.
And so happiness was shared, not only by those who still lived on earth but also by those who already dwelt on the other side, because God permitted them to bring this happiness to those who had remained on earth in sorrow and sadness, and had granted them the strength and the contact to do so.

The friends on the other side were happy because they could cry out: ‘We aren’t dead, we’re alive.
Don’t mourn over us, we come to you and will help you.
We can see through matter and can guide your ways through all marshes.
We see the danger, because we have been released from crude matter.
We are highly sensitive and live in the light.
This is the power which we, here in eternity, received from God.
Don’t close your ears, we are with you and want to help you.
Don’t look for us afar, we are near.
Don’t look for us in the grave, we’re alive and at your side.’

André had already heard these words so often, but to him and others too the words ‘We’re not dead, we’re alive’ kept on resounding like beautiful music.

First the information was received through the cross and board, and then Alcar came through who addressed the guests as follows:

‘Here I am again.
Good evening, my dear friends, sisters and brothers.
This evening I want to talk to you about Faith, Hope and Love.

One day we will be together forever.
Remember these words while you are still on earth.

It’s so wonderful to come to you to bring you the light from the side beyond, the light which God bestows on us, to bring it to you.
God’s love.

And why is it so wonderful to be here?
Because there is harmony among you; a merge of soul with soul, which is so desperately needed.
Because this harmony creates an atmosphere that is sacred and beautiful and seldom found amongst people.
And that is why I’m so grateful that I may come, to be in your midst.
Note that I said: may.
Because it is not my will, it’s God’s holy will which I fulfil.
And I’m grateful that I may do so.
It’s so wonderful to be in your midst because I feel all the rays you radiate around me, and this fills me with confidence that nothing but good will happen here.
You all radiate goodness, because you know, and because you want goodness to prevail.
Because you are full of longing to do the higher things and want only the higher things.
And even if you don’t notice it immediately and even if you’re not aware of it yet, I want to tell you this because it may incite you to continue on this road, for it will strengthen you and build you up.

You know, everyone needs a bit of support in his life, and I know that a word or two from me will do you good.
There, look up there, everyone.’

Alcar pointed upward with his right hand.

‘There you see the Faith, the Hope and the Love, and of the latter you will see the most; it’s Love and it’s beautiful.
Oh, it’s so beautiful.
Believe in it and act accordingly, because without faith in the Hereafter, without hope for betterment and without the love that forms a link, life would be desolate.
Those three words, Faith, Hope and Love give you an insight into Divine mercy.
If God grants you Faith, Hope and Love, then that’s more than man deserves.
And if one didn’t possess them, would life then be tolerable?
If man didn’t believe in God, didn’t believe and trust that He will grant us all of that, wouldn’t life on earth be utterly miserable?
It’s so beautiful, so holy, this trinity, and so utterly characteristic of the soul of man.
It’s so great, so pure.
It’s more than you can fathom.

But even if you were to take the merest particle of it all and absorb it, and even if you had only a little faith, a flicker of hope and a ray of love, then you would grasp some of that infinite clarity, of that intense beauty, of that Divine.
And you, man, must take care that it grows, that it expands, that it gets stronger and increases in beauty, that a cloud of faith, a cloud of hope may live within you, and that you let a sun of love shine its blue radiance.
Only then will an ethereal aura surround you.
Then something beautiful, something wonderful will emanate from inside of you, and God will see his children as He wishes them to be.
Believe, have hope and spread love, and God will bless you.
And then you will be able to call upon God, prostrate yourself before Him in grateful humility and thank Him for the beauty, the sanctity and the Glory which He brought into your life.
This is the beautiful aspect in your life; this is the Divine Light.
But alas, there are still so many who don’t see the Light or don’t want to see it.
But if you carry Faith, Hope and Love within you, yet you don’t find them on your path, then the journey gets so difficult, so hard, so barren; then it is as if it's lost.
Then you find brambles cluster your path and the bushes need entangling by hand to find the right path again.
Your hands will bleed and the thorns must be removed from the flesh because they hurt so much.
Then the path is hard.
But Faith, Hope and Love must grow within you, and you must realize that with God’s help you will pull aside those branches to find the way to all things beautiful, high and holy.

You must trust that you can find that path, and in the end you will.

Have faith, have faith.
Believe in yourself, have hope in betterment and let love blossom within you.
The battle is worth it, my friends, the struggle will strengthen you, but the fight must raise you up to the triad: Faith, Hope and Love.
You must battle on until you reach this goal.
One day you will triumph.
But as long as you back away from the difficulties you meet on this road, your battle will get harder and harder and your road will get rougher.
Then you won’t find only thorny brambles on your way, but everything that carries thorns will grow on it, as high as mountains.
And you won’t get through until you bow before God’s will and kneel in submission and say: ‘God forgive me, I did wrong.’
And when you lift your head and you see the glorious colours in the distance, bearing the words ‘ Faith, Hope and Love’, then all the thorns will have vanished and the path will be smooth, glistening and open, like a path of light.
And then you will go towards the Light, your arms outspread, and grateful that you were allowed to reach this point.
Have faith, have hope, and know love.
Know love for your neighbour, know love for all God’s creatures, know love for those who have departed from you.
Know love for God and know love for those who don’t understand you.

Your path is not always easy, but with God’s help, with the Faith, Hope and Love He puts into your heart, you will come into the Light.
Trust in that, always trust in that.

It is so wonderful to be in your midst and to be able to give all this to you; to be able to tell you what’s on the heart, to find a willing ear that listens, a heart that understands and a soul that searches for the things on high.
May my words that are so simple and yet want to say so much, lay a bit of God’s almighty Power in your hearts.
May you all, in difficult times, believe, have hope, and live in God’s Love.
May God bless you!
Amen.’

The séance had come to its end and everyone returned home, withdrawn into himself.

Again an emissary from God had spoken to them and everyone felt invigorated, spiritually and physically, because Alcar’s words had given them wholesome rest and sacred strength for the spirit.

This was the influence from the side beyond, brought to them by the ‘dead’.

Again everyone had received proof of their continued existence, and so they were convinced that dead is not dead.
They felt the sanctity and the purity of these beautiful evenings.

‘More of these evenings are to follow, André’, Alcar said, ‘and we will go on bringing people strength from the Hereafter.

Be strong and pray to God that we may always receive this strength to give it to humanity through you.

I thank you, my son.
Now I must leave.’

Alcar had stopped talking, but yet André sensed him beside him, which will probably be the case as long as he remains on earth.
And he will go on beseeching God to let Alcar stay, as his work is sacred and dear to him.

CHAPTER II
In contact with the Side Beyond - 1 -

The objects with which we maintained contact with the Side Beyond were called a cross and board.
The cross was a hoop; in the middle of it there was a stick pointing downwards with two crossed strips of wood.
The participants held the cross loosely and if an intelligence now wanted to have a word with us, it made the cross move using its powers and with the stick, it tapped the letters which were on the board in alphabetical order.
In this way words were formed, from which whole messages emerged.

We always prepared ourselves seriously for the séance evening.
We never started without praying first, father also often read a passage from the bible.
In this way we did everything in order to let the séance take place in a harmonious atmosphere.

Nevertheless, you must not think that the messages which the Side Beyond passed on to us were always high-principled and spiritual.
Only all too often we were shocked by the coarse, sometimes vulgar language, which the spirits passed onto us and as a result of which we felt as though we were in the rough end of Amsterdam.
We then felt close to wanting to throw the cross and board into a corner.
After all, we were not there for sensation, nor to hear dirty language, or to be presented with lies and deception.
But the wise, elevated lessons which reached us, the times that a master revealed himself, stopped us from putting an end to the séances.
Father usually asked the questions.

One evening when there was a solemn atmosphere and we were completely ready to give ourselves, a master revealed himself.
His words and sentences came across powerfully and clearly.

“May we know who you are?” father asked.

The answer came immediately.

“What does a name matter, friend of the earth.
What difference does it make to you whether I give you my name, after all, you will still not know me, will you?
But if you still wish to have a name, then call me Johannes.”

“Johannes!” father said surprised.
“But… are you my dead brother then?”

“No, my friend, if I was, then I would already have told you that.
Did you think that I could have kept that to myself?
That I would have been able to control myself if I was your brother who had passed over and I was in contact with you again?
Know then, that we continue to love our relations and friends, even if we have finished our earthly life.
Death does not change anything, my friends, we also retain all our feelings after this life.”

“We are very grateful to you, good spirit”, father said and continued with: “May we ask you some questions?”

“Do that, I am waiting for them.”

Father asked: “Do you think that there will be a war?”

“Yes, there will be a war, but your country will not be part of the war.”

We were greatly surprised to hear this stated so explicitly.
At the same time the terrible implication of the prediction got through to us.
So the world was faced with a new war again, which would mean fear and terror for millions of people.

“Why have new wars come to exist constantly?” father asked sadly.

“The meaning of the war for the earth can be traced, but only by us, who live on the other side of the grave.
If you knew the purpose of those wars, you would also know the reason for life on earth.
Volumes could be written to explain this mighty problem, but that is not our intention.”

“Would you not like to try anyway?”

“No, because I would not achieve anything by doing so.”

“Why not, if I may ask?”

“Because we would be constantly interrupted anyway.”

“But could you not make sure that there were no more disturbances?
Tell us what we must do about it, we will do anything for it.”

“It would still not be enough to release us from disturbances at the séances.”

And the following words which were spelled out already proved that the good spirit was right.
Because suddenly the cross tapped out: “Your mother is here”, and at the same time the cross went to my father.
Surprised, he answered:

“Are you not mistaken?
My mother is still alive!”

There was no answer, but the cross continued to turn violently.
Gradually, however, it became calmer.
Then it spelt out:

“Are you ready, because we are also ready.”

“Did you just say that my mother was here?” was father’s first question.

“I didn’t, friends.
That was a disturbance.”

“Is there no way of preventing them at all?”

“We are doing our best.
However, there is a lot to it.
Have you any more questions?”

“Will you tell us something about your life, good friend?
Is your life like ours; I mean, can you think and feel like on earth?”

“No”, was the immediate reply, “our life is very different to yours.
We have finished with the material part, our life is astral, it is spiritual.
There is nothing left in us which connects our life with your world.
But we can perceive, experience everything in your world if we want to, even if people on earth with you think that we are dead and have therefore dissolved.
Accept that there is no death and that life is eternal.
And that God, the Creator of all life, is love and does not know hatred.
Accept from me that He does not condemn people and that He is not the one, who brings about wars.
The proof of His Love is visible to everyone who wants to see.
No one in the Spheres of Light will witness to this any differently than I do, because all of us live in and through His Love.
His Love emanates to each of His creatures and one day everyone, with no exceptions, will be taken up into His bliss.”

“We thank you for your words.
You make us very happy.”

“What I am telling you is the sacred truth.
I try to convince people on earth of eternal life.
If I achieve that and if they change their views, they will start to reflect and they will begin a higher life, then my world will also change as a result of this.
Because then I will serve, then I will work on a spiritual task and that will bring me more light and a higher heaven.
I advise you, also work on yourself, work on other people, serve them, tell them what you heard from me, and you will also gain light.
And God’s blessing will radiate upon you.”

“We are so grateful to you, master Johannes.
May we ask other questions?”

“No, friend, it is enough for this evening.
However, I will come back to you.
Greetings to you all, but now first pray and then leave it.”

Father prayed aloud and the rest of us prayed with him in serious and respectful gratitude.
This evening went really well, in this way we could learn a lot.
But if only every séance was like that!

The next time we sat down to a séance, more tense and longing than ever.
Master Johannes immediately came to the cross.
He spelt out:

“Greetings, my friends.
Life on our side is great, deep and sincere.
If there is light in you and you wish to learn, you can master a lot of things, one day our worlds will also open to you.
Then you can go where you like.
We have finished with our bodies.
We float through the universe, which belongs to us.
Everything which is to be found in our sphere and in the spheres underneath belongs to us, they are our reward.
And that is not so very small.
The further we are in spirit, the greater our knowledge of God’s mighty laws, the more beautiful our life and surroundings will become.
Why am I telling you this and why will I keep telling you this?
In order to inspire you to work on yourself, so that you will soon enter this glory.
Because know that these earthly pleasures, earthly life, are all only temporary; our happiness, our life, on the other hand, is eternal!
So do not despair, but work without stopping on increasing your love with regard to the life of God.”

“Can you tell us about life in your heaven?”

“Of course, my friend.
But in order to tell you about that, I would have to have ten evenings without interruptions.
Only then could I give you an idea of the sacredness of our side.”

“But that is possible, isn’t it, master Johannes?”

“That is what you think, but it is not that simple.
You will experience that, because disruptions will not stay away.
But continue to believe in me, even if I am forced from the cross, and my powers do not appear to be capable of controlling the disruptions.”

“No, master, we will always believe in you!”
Deeply convinced, father spoke these words on behalf of all of us.

“No one on earth knows himself, my friend”, was spelt out on the board, to our surprise.

“What do you mean now, master?”

“I mean to say that one day you will give up carrying on with the séances, anyway.
And that is probably the best thing as well, at least, for you.

Then why am I still here and why do I make an effort to pass on my lessons?
Because you will never forget them and you will be grateful for them in the future.”

Those words sounded mysterious.
Father did not know what to say to them.
It was silent for a moment and then – in order to steer the conversation in a different way – father asked the question which had already occupied us for some time and was often discussed by us:

“Have you already seen Christ?”

“I was allowed to have a glimpse into His holy Life, but to see Him means something entirely different, after all.”

“But we are taught on earth that if we have led a good life, after this life we will be with Christ?”

“Those who teach you that do not know about Eternal Life.
Yet we can admire God’s holy Child, you and I, and when we want to.
This sounds strange, doesn’t it?
If I want to see Christ, my friends, then I tune into His holy Life, I will then see Him passing over the earth, I will see Him talking and meditating, I will see Him on the cross at Golgotha and I will then bow deeply.
You can also do that, His life on earth is familiar to you.
But ‘to see’ Christ, as He now is, to be with God’s son, no, that is not possible for you and me.
The thought alone is mocking His Holiness.
And to believe that we, you and I, can receive the Body and Blood of Christ in our state, as you learned on earth, is a terrible sacrilege.
But which one of us is worthy of this?
No, see Christ in His life on earth, reflect on its sacredness and bow deeply to it.
And then He will be with you, because you will follow Him in His holy Life.”

The cross floated for a moment above the board, as if to give everyone the opportunity to allow the words to be absorbed.
Then master Johannes continued with:

“Go to Golgotha, people of the earth, climb Mount Calvary and pray for strength in order to be able to look up at God’s Child, hanging on the cross.
Try to understand what kind of love must have moved Him to let Himself be nailed to the cross.
At Golgotha you will not be asked to drink His holy Blood, but to learn lessons, which He, descending to earth from the highest heaven, wanted to give humanity.
You and we, for our part, will then be connected through Christ with God and His laws.
‘I am the way, the truth and the life’, Christ said.
‘No one comes to the Father than through Me.’
By following Him, we, you and I and all people, will one day be with Him.
But then we, like He, will have to give everything, we will have to be completely like Him!
If we are to possess His Divine Love, His Divine Wisdom and His Divine Power!”

Deeply impressed, after these solemn words, we carried out master Johannes’ request to pray.
For a long time we sat quietly together and reflected upon his message.
Filled with gratitude, we thanked God that we were gifted with maintaining such contact with souls who had passed over, people like us, who thought and worked, and in all their happiness did not forget the souls who still plodded on in the sphere of the earth in order to master a higher life.

At the next séance, the first question which father asked was:

“Is there a purgatory and a hell, master Johannes?”

“A hell and a purgatory”, the answer immediately and clearly came from the master, “not as you were taught, no, we do not have that here.
There are hells here and there is a purgatory, but different, entirely different than you were told.
Do you really believe that a God of Love can approve that His Life will burn eternally in a hell?
That will never be possible!”

“So eternal damnation does not exist?”

“No.”

“But the church says that, after all, and millions of people accept this on its authority, however terrible and contradictory they find the existence of that hell.”

“One day everyone will know that an eternal hell does not exist, that God does not condemn His own Life, cannot condemn.”

“Can you tell us more about this?”

“Friends of the earth, how I would like to tell you everything I know about God’s laws.
But you would not understand me, anyway.
Perhaps in the future, wait patiently.
Now just hold on to everything which I tell you these evenings.
Think about it, serve and do good.”

“It is often difficult, master Johannes, to know what is good and what is evil.”

“You have to learn to sense it yourself.
Test everything you do with love.
Test everything with pure Divine love and you will no longer be able to do wrong.
You will then learn to sense what is good and what is wrong.
I am with you, I will follow you and help you.
He who searches for the light, will get help from those who already possess the light and want to be a beacon.
These are laws and powers which work for everyone who seriously wants to start a higher spiritual life.”

“It is wonderful what you are giving us.
And the way it is going during the last séances, without any disturbances at all.
How can this suddenly be the case?”

“Do not clap your hands too soon, friend.
By talking in this way alone, you can be the cause of the disturbances.”

“I don’t understand, master.”

“The way of asking questions is of great importance to how the séances go.
But now I cannot go into this any further.
Have you any more questions?”

“Yes, one question, which has occupied us more than once and which no one has answered.
You told us that a new war would break out.
Can God not stop this war?”

“No, it is not possible for Him!” master Johannes’ answer came quickly and decisively.

“But you yourself kept calling God a Father of Love.”

“Exactly, good friend, but God has nothing, do you hear, nothing to do with your wars.
We people and only we are to blame for the coming war, remember this.
We wanted this war, all of us, who live on earth and here on the side beyond.

Can you accept this?”

“No”, father said hesitantly, and he frowned deeply.
“No, we do not understand that.”

“I am speaking the sacred truth.
But there is a good side to the war.
As a result of all the misery, we learn that we cannot progress further with hate and violence and that only love for one another can bring us happiness and peace.”

“And are all these terrible things necessary for this purpose?”

“Terrible things, my friend, which we bring upon ourselves!
Humanity and humanity alone is the reason for the misery in the world, because anyone who lives according to God’s laws does not create any misery and so does not have to fear any misery!
But it is God’s gain, because precisely as a result of these terrible things, the masses will learn, the individual will learn, as I already said, to cast aside evil and to search for good.”

“But, how, master?”

“Hold your tongue, dopehead!”

We got a terrible fright.
We had to accept that a mocking ghost had forced master Johannes off the board.
With regret we came to admit that disturbances could not be avoided.
Even a spirit of the light, a master could not prevent them!

Father asked hesitantly: “Are you still there, master Johannes?”

“Yes!” was the answer, which was spelt out.

“But… why did you change so much?”
Distrust could clearly be heard in father’s voice.

“I have not changed, idiot.”
Slowly, hesitantly, the cross tapped out the letters.
From this it could also be seen that another influence was controlling the cross.
Not really knowing what to do, we followed the uncertain, wavy moments of the cross.
Suddenly it addressed the board again and now wrote with force and without hesitation:

“Stop now and pray.
Go dancing with your wife, give her that.”

Now what?
Were these the final words again of master Johannes?
Or was it still the mocking spirit who spelt them out?
But how could it be that they came through so clearly and without mistakes or uncertainty and without any swearing, as in the previous sentences of the interrupter?
Holding séances was difficult, after all, everyone thought.
We departed with mixed feelings.
It was especially difficult for my father, finally the advice written down was his concern, to adjust purely to the strange event.
He blamed himself that he had not asked any good questions, so that the disturbance was caused by him.
“Everything was going so well”, he complained on the way home, “and then suddenly that mocking spirit!
Is there nothing at all that can be done about it?
And what should I make of that last part, Theo, was that really master Johannes who came to the cross?
If that is the case, and it is possible after all, did I behave wrongly towards mother then?
Should I have gone with her?
Was it not wrong then what she did?
Was it wrong of me to agree to the divorce?
Should I have kept her with me precisely and moved heaven and earth to give her better thoughts?
Is it not actually cowardly of me to just accept that she has left our lives?”

I did my best to remove his depressing thoughts, but I did not succeed.
What happened at the séance would not leave him alone, in all seriousness, he said to me a few days later that he was thinking of going back to mother.
The words of the intelligence had made it clear to him that he was still responsible for mother.
At least that is how he felt.

“But what if it was not even master Johannes who said those words and we were involved with a mean trick from the mocking spirit?” I asked him.
He then shrugged his shoulders in despair, if the last part was true, what could you believe about the séances then?
If even a master is not capable of preventing such a mean disturbance…
But surely an angel has power over a devil?!
Was it not all deception and so were all the opponents of spiritualism not right, when they called this carry-on the work of the devil, which decent people should keep well away from?
Yes, father was already at this point…

I saw only one salvation and suggested to him to hold a séance together, it would perhaps clarify things as a result of which his depressing thoughts would disappear.
He immediately accepted my suggestion and we soon had contact.

“Why do you allow yourself to become so unbalanced, friend?” the cross wrote.
“Can you not distinguish truth from deception, good from evil then?
Did I not already warn you beforehand that there would be disruptions?
You told me then that you would always believe in me.
How can you listen to the beings who represent lies and deception?
It does not credit your personality that a few pathetic words can rob you of your certainty like that.
Your wife has chosen her own path.
She did not want to be changed by you.
You did what you could.
Now she will have to learn for herself that she is searching for the wrong thing.
Life alone can still teach her, not you.
So you are not to blame, my friend, accept this from me.
Do not interfere in her life anymore, and do not immediately believe the nonsense which mocking spirits want to present you with.”

Ashamed, and in a soft tone my father answered: “Thank you, master Johannes, can you forgive me?”

“Let this be a lesson to you.”

“But may I ask you this: Can you tell me where those mocking spirits suddenly came from like that, how could they suddenly overcome us like that?”

“It was you yourself who attracted them.
The misery of your married life still lives in you, even if you were not thinking about it during the séance.”

“But how could those spirits know that at that moment?”

“That is very simple, they read it in your aura”, master Johannes answered briefly and severely.

“Am I so bad then?”
“That has nothing to do with bad, my friend.
At the time when you hold a séance you are completely open to the Side Beyond.”

“Also to bad beings?”

“Unfortunately, yes, also to darkness.”

“Can nothing be done about it then?”
Father asked this, in despair.

“No, not for the moment.”

“And can you not prevent the demons from disrupting our evenings either, master Johannes?”

“No.
For that matter, they are not demons, a demon does not come to you, dear friend.
A dark spirit is not a demon.
They are unfortunate people, if you wish to know.”

“And would they be able to read our auras then, master?
It is difficult to accept.”

“Yet that is the way it is.”
Quietly but strongly the cross tapped out the letters, steered by the spirit of the light.
It was a pleasure to see the sentences being constructed.
“When you hold a séance, your inner life is completely open.
So you still live on earth amongst the darkness.
But you possess light.
Is it so difficult to understand then that the unfortunate people on our side, who are destined to darkness and cold, come here to warm themselves by you and others?
If one of you has even a single thought tuned into them, then a connection will already take place, and it is as a result of this that the higher being disappears.
Then you experience that nonsense is spelt out.
They cannot cause any more misery, these beings who are not demons.
Demons have animal poison in them, achieving a connection with them can mean insanity for you.”

“Will it therefore always remain difficult to get good séances, master?
Is this environment not good for holding séances?”

“Different dark influences indeed live here, but it is the same everywhere.
Of course, every room, every house has its own harmony, which is created by those who live there.
But imagine that you hold a séance in the open, that your room is therefore open to every spirit, whether it is in the light or in the dark.
I will now advise you of the following: Always try to empty your mind during the séances, it will never be completely possible, for this is too great a skill, but at least do the best you can.
I have to disengage the thoughts and emotions of you and the other people present in order to at least make it difficult for the interrupters to get through to you.
After all, the emptier your mind, the less the lower beings can read into your emotions and the easier it is for me to control you and absorb you into my life.
It will be for the good of what I have to tell you.”

“We will try to do what you say.
But may I ask another question?
Perhaps I am asking it inadequately, but…
Do these spirits also know my wife?”

“Of course they know her, they can follow her, after all.
Do you not understand it yet at all?
The astral being reads the longings in her aura, which are present in her.
It is a person himself who opens wide the doors of his soul and lets the lower beings in.
And the dark ones keep on coming back, after all, they want to experience things on earth.”

“How awful, master.
So they have a good time through her?”
“That is the way it is, my friend.
Only when she sees the wrong of her actions and starts to resist her low-life longings with all her strength and finally conquers them, only then will she be freed from these beings, which she now attracts herself, after all, they will leave her, because there will be nothing more for them to experience through her.”

The words which the cross now tapped out, surprised me and also father.
Master Johannes wrote:

“Your son must try to write one day.
I will then try to record through him what I have to say to you.
It will be quicker this way.”

The cross became still.
I fetched some paper and a pencil and sat down, full of excitement, waiting for the things which were to come.
We did not have to wait long, soon my hand started to move without me doing anything and it wrote letters, words and sentences.

“My child, I want to try to write through you.
Empty your mind, if you want to give yourself completely I will be able to give you spiritual nourishment.
Do not think for yourself, it will be me who…”

But we were greatly disappointed because suddenly a mocking spirit forced master Johannes away, he made himself master of my hand and wrote:

“So, brat, do you too have to start?
Do they want you to be a spirit?
Go to school instead, monkey, or throw caution to the winds.
What are you doing here anyway?
Let your mother make you some porridge and then go to bed.”

I threw away the pencil, but at father’s insistence, who said that we had to persist, I picked up the pencil again anyway.
We waited.
Then my hand wrote:

“You have to be patient, friends, because there are disruptions.
I cannot do anything about it, you have to get through it, if you want to have good séances.
Patience is needed for this.
It is not easy to become a good medium, you have to give everything for that.
Neither you or anyone in the universe gets anything for nothing.
This is the writing medium gift, but as a result of inspiration.
The following will happen: I will connect my feelings to your feelings.
You may not think, I already told you, because then you will disturb me.
So you must release yourself from your earthly worries.
I will push my thoughts through you, so you will know beforehand what your hand will write down.”

“It is wonderful, master Johannes”, father said, when he saw that my hand was still and he had read what was written.
“May I ask you a question?”

“No”, my hand wrote, and it was remarkable that I did indeed already know what would come, “it is enough for this evening, your son would become too tired and that must not happen.
I do not want to exhaust him.
Now I bid you good night, I will go but I will be back.”

My hand remained still, now that the powers which controlled it had disappeared.
So I had the gift of a writing medium, the spirits could reach me and pass on their messages through me.
Father’s face was radiant, he was so happy with the possibilities, which this method of communication offered in order to convince other souls of eternal life.
But it was strange, I myself could not be happy with it.
It was impossible for me to express the feeling I had, but I was not keen to write…
However, so as not to temper father’s enthusiasm, I remained silent.
He kept bringing the subject up again.
“How wonderful it is, Theo, that you are allowed to write.
How many people are able to do that and are allowed to do that?
We will shake them awake, make them wiser, convince them that there is no death, but only life.
Master Johannes will help us.
He will give us spiritual nourishment for all those people who long to be able to know.
We must do our best, son, perhaps we will get good séances.
So let’s do exactly what master Johannes said, empty our minds, not think and tune ourselves into the higher things.”

At the following séance we were with the others again.
The cross lay with the point upwards on the board, we had laid our hands loosely on it.
Suddenly it started to move, it went upwards and came back.
However, while the first letters were being tapped out, I started to feel sleepy, but it soon went away again.
Then my hand reached for the pencil lying ready and it started to write.

“If there is light in you, why are you still in despair?
Why do you keep thinking of the war which is threatening?
But you were supposed to tune into the higher life, weren’t you?”

Father read what was written with surprise.

“Can you follow our thoughts so sharply, master?” he asked.

“I already told you that before.
Put those bad thoughts out of your head.
Otherwise, you know that, you will draw wrong influences towards you.
Tune into us and banish earthly misery from your thoughts.
Only follow those things which give you joy and peace.
And now, ask your questions, if you have any.”

“Did you pass over long ago, master?” father then asked, who had already remarked to us before that he would like to know a bit more about master Johannes, his personality and his life.

“What is long, what is time, my friend, if life is eternal?
We do not know time here in the spheres, life here is eternal, even if the spheres will dissolve one day.”

“But does that not mean that there is an end, after all?”

“Yes and no.
In the sense that you mean, yes, but as far as we know, no.
We have earned the spheres, the heaven, in which we live, it is our reward.
However, we do not stand still, we work on ourselves more and more powerfully, our love for the life of God becomes more and more spiritual, greater and greater, our knowledge of His Laws becomes more conscious and in this way we go higher and higher, we penetrate God’s World deeper and deeper, just as long as until we have reached the All, the Divine Spheres.
Then the underlying spheres will dissolve, but nevertheless they will not disappear, and this is because they are our reward, and we can build them up again for ourselves by simply tuning into them in order to be in complete unity with them.
Can you feel this?”

“Not completely, master, but we will think about it.”

“Try to master love and you will build a sphere of light.
The happiness which awaits you there will be great.
So great that it cannot be described.
I would like to tell you many things about our world, the world which awaits you.
But ask me.”

After a slight hesitation, father asked: “Are you a man or a woman, master?”

“Didn’t I know it, that you would ask me this question sooner or later?
But, friend, what does it matter if you know?
In the sphere we feel neither like a man or a woman.
We feel like both.
Does this surprise you?”

“Yes, very much even, after all, we have never heard of that.
I have not read anything about that yet in the books either.”

“I was following you when you were reading.
It was in the books.
However, you did not feel this depth.”

“Can you tell us more about this, master?”

But we would not receive any more that evening.
I got the feeling that disruptions were threatening, because my hand suddenly wrote: “Perhaps at the following séance, you must stop now.
Greetings and leave after the prayers.”

Father and I held a séance the following evening, we did not need to wait long, my hand soon started to write.

“I am in your midst again, friends of the earth, children of eternity, in order to bring you spiritual nourishment.
I greet you.
You are connected to eternal life.
On the way here your love and longing for spiritual help already came to me.
I am grateful for your feelings.”

“Do you want to tell us more now, master, about ‘being a man and a woman’ in the spheres?”

Immediately after this question, my hand began to write.

“In order to let you understand everything properly, I would have to give you a cosmic image; however, then you would not be able to follow me.
I will do my best to explain everything as simply as possible, so that it will at least be clear to you to a certain degree.

Of course, we are not genderless in the spheres, we are of course either a man or a woman.
But there is a difference between your situation and ours, namely, an earthly person who is still material and is not spiritually tuned, feels like either a man or a woman, he only knows the feelings which belong to his or her gender.
However, we, who have discarded the earthly body, feel universal, our emotional life is tuned to the universe.
We feel like both man and woman, feel like both father and mother.
We mastered the feelings of both, which was only possible after much conflict.
We started to feel universal and love universally!
So we feel like neither man nor woman, because we feel like both.
And accept this from me as well: also God, the Creator of all life, is father and mother.”

Deeply impressed with what master Johannes wrote down, father allowed himself to take in the words.
But before he could ask another question, a terrible disturbance destroyed the sacredness of the moment.
While we thought about the words of the master, my hand lay quietly on the paper in expectation of a new question.
Then I suddenly felt a severe cramp coming into my hand.
Thinking that master Johannes wanted to start writing again, I let my hand go.
However, we got the fright of our lives when we read:

“How people can search, can’t they?
Yuck, what pathetic creatures you are.”

“Are you a mocking spirit?” father uttered.

“Mocking spirit, mocking spirit?” was written down and we felt the sarcasm in the words.
The hand continued: “But what are you searching for in our world?
Is there not enough to experience where you are?
But search for it in your own world, there is such a lot to be had there.
A nice drink, women.
Delicious.
You are the living dead, you are not alive.”

I threw the pencil away.
But father convinced me to take it up again.
“Perhaps it is an unhappy person, whom we can help.
We can do good work”, he argued.
I took up the pencil again and sentences were immediately formed.

“I can tell you a lot.
There is the mother, for example, one person searches for it with the mother, but he is father.
If you have nothing from either of them, you feel really cheated.
Then you are genderless, so to speak.
You are really dopey, say.
Completely dopey.”

I looked at father.
“Do we have to continue with this?” I asked him.
He nodded.
Against my will I released my hand.

“I am just saying, you either like a drink, or you don’t.”

“Who are you?”, father asked.

“Piet Hein, but I miss my silver fleet and that is a great pity.”

Father and I had to laugh for a moment.
“So you are a mocking spirit, aren’t you?” father asked.
I wanted to stop, put the pencil aside, but my hand held it tightly.
So they wanted to continue writing.

“No, do not stop.
You have to let me finish.”

“Then tell me who you are”, father started to say.

“I will tell you, but then believe me and do not laugh at me.
I am Napoleon, that small, but extremely powerful man, that Corsican, you know.
It is wonderful to talk to you.”

“Surely you are not trying to maintain that you are Napoleon, are you?”

“No, I am just kidding.”

“You are unhappy.
You must start a different, better life.
A life like this is nothing, it is cold and empty.”

“Is that what you think, wretch”, was the immediate reply.
“Do you think that you know it, iron king?
That you could help me?
I will sort that out myself, I do not need you for that.
You will just help me from the frying pan into the fire anyway.
And I do not like your faces.
You should have dealt with your wife better.
Then she would not have run off.”

Father got a fright.
“Where did you get that from?”

“You see that I know that!”

“I have no reply to that nonsense”, father said and continued: “I am asking you, can we help you?”

“Yes, but not with a little bit of praying.
Downstairs in your hardware store there are things which make me shiver.
I am drawn to them and have to keep looking at them.
Will you get rid of them?”

“What is annoying you there then?”

“Those axes.
If you knew me, you would run off.”

“Are you so dangerous then?”

“I am only dangerous when I see axes.
Otherwise I will eat out of your hand.”

We smiled.
But my hand immediately wrote: “Do you have to laugh at that?
It is pitiful enough.
I hate axes.
You can murder people with them.
And every hit strikes home as well.”

Father shrugged his shoulders.
“You would be better to…”

Before father could finish, my hand wrote: “Just stop your moaning.
Instead do what I ask.
And now just go to sleep, do you understand me, gentlemen?
Sleep – and I will lie down amongst you – the peace which comes over me…
I will sleep for eternity, and… forget.
Sometimes I would like to write poetry.
Where does it come from?
I do not know.
Listen… your housekeeper is no good.
You should have hired a different one.
Then I could have felt some warmth.
Like then.
This one is too dry, much too dry.
This one does not want anything.
I am at home here and I have rights as well.
Your own wife was a darling.
She loved it, she was of use to me.
Will you do it, will you hire another one?
It is boring here, you know.
I have been living here for so long.
I have to live here, even if I wanted to leave.
It is deadly serious for me.”

“Did you commit suicide?” father asked tensely.

“Something like that.
I killed and you may not kill.
Take care of the axes later.
They are going to drive me mad sometime.
I have to live here.
But damn it, if you…”

I threw away the pencil and went to wash my hands.
My reluctance to write had grown into antipathy.
I would not be a part of that nonsense, I decided.
Father was not very keen on it anymore either.
It was a pity about the wonderful séances with master Johannes, but at the end of the day you were never certain that it was him and only him who addressed us.

A person who had committed suicide lived in our house.
It had to be dangerous to hold séances there.
We decided to stop the séances completely.
Father wanted to leave the house.
He thought that here he would never be released from the misery which he had had to endure through the years.

We moved to Rotterdam where father bought a shop.
I managed it mainly, while he rested and read.
If the longing to renew contact with the Side Beyond overcame us now and again, the horrible memory of the countless disruptions was enough not to proceed.
However, we did read and kept thinking about the beautiful, often deep words of master Johannes.

In this way a number of peaceful years passed.
Father became quieter and quieter, his health deteriorated.
I did not believe that I would have him with me for much longer.

Summary

The trilogy ‘A View into the Hereafter’ is the first book title by Jozef Rulof and as such an excellent way of becoming acquainted with his writing mediumship. The trilogy has been built up around the basic principle for the grow of our spiritual conscious: ‘There is life after death’.

In the foreword of the first edition Jozef Rulof wrote:

‘The publication of this book has the aim of giving humanity the conviction of it – in a higher form of existence – continued existence after the physical death.’

Therefore not only ‘life after death’ but the very concrete continued existence of the human personality as spirit. The ‘spirit’ is hereby not a vague concept or a by-product of the brain, as earthly science describes it. The spirit comes to the fore as a human personality, which separates itself from the earthly body upon death and lives on as spirit. That spirit therefore also has a body, an astral or spiritual body, which looks just like the earthly body in the beginning because it has been given form by the same spiritual personality. The nature and construction of this astral body is described in these books in detail.

The trilogy makes it clear that the spirits are to be found both in the ‘divine spheres’ and here on earth. They are not visible to most people, because they no longer have a physical body. However, Jozef Rulof could already see them and talk to them as a small child. As a result of his high degree of clairvoyance and clairaudience and his pure emotional life he could be developed into a pure medium for the spirits in order to make themselves known on earth.

Jozef is called ‘André’ in these books. The first part of this trilogy describes the wonderful way in which André gets to know the spirit Alcar. In the first instance André wants nothing to do with spirits or spiritualism, but Alcar seeks contact himself with André because Alcar wants to give his wisdom and love to humanity. The book contains hundreds of pieces of proof which Alcar gives to André to show that the spirit really lives on after physical death. Alcar shows that he and his ‘brothers and sisters’ have kept all their human feelings and capacities. In order to also make this clear for other people Alcar asks various spirits to paint again on earth by making use of André’s body. André himself does not possess any talent for drawing, but the spiritual painters create wonderful works of art which testify their high capabilities.

André receives these works of art in a state of trance. The painting is also used to deepen this trance. After years of development André is capable of departing from his body as spirit. As a result of this he can check with his own eyes what Alcar told him about the spiritual worlds.

Alcar and André make hundreds of ‘astral’ journeys together to the spheres of light and darkness. Alcar takes André to the highest ‘heavens’, in order to give humanity a general overview of what happiness awaits the human being after his earthly death. André sees his own still-born child again in the ‘children sphere’ and as a result of this he can support his wife with the message that their child lives on in divine happiness, brought up by spiritual mothers.

Alcar shows André how the human being as a spiritual personality continues to build on art and science, in order to then bring that science to earth. Many spirits of light are continually busy inspiring the earthly scientist and physician to cure the terrible illnesses. Alcar also takes André to the seven spheres of darkness, where the dark spirits have found their astral residence. André is attacked in these dark areas by dark entities who want to control him. Alcar saves him from their claws, but André has learned as a result of this how ‘real’ the astral powers are.

Finally Alcar and André also make many journeys in spirit to earth where they look at the life of the human being from their astral invisibility. André notices to his great surprise that the earthly being is not often alone, but usually surrounded by spirits. The spirits of light help each being who is open to this, while the dark spirits try to influence the earthly people in order to follow their dark passions. André can clearly see how the being on earth determines for himself which spiritual influence he attracts. People who give love to everything which lives are helped by spirits of light in order to increase the spiritual level of humanity. People with dark inner feelings attract similar people from the astral areas, who also strengthen each other.

During his disembodiments André sees things which have never been seen by human eyes. In this way he sees what happens with the spirit of a musician who is cremated on earth. André is witness to the unbearable suffering which this spirit experiences, which convinces André of the dreadful consequences of the spiritual ignorance of humanity. He therefore makes his life and body available to Alcar from that moment in order to bring spiritual wisdom to earth.

These books give spiritual ‘knowledge of matters’ in order to make decisions about life and death. The trilogy contains more information about life after death than any other book which is on the market. ‘A View into the Hereafter’ connects our earthly existence with life after death and shows how we can evolve spiritually by giving love.

The Bridge to Eternal Life (Pdf)

The second title by Jozef Rulof, ‘The Bridge to Eternal Life’ is likewise an excellent way of becoming familiar with his series of books.

Jozef worked for some time as a healing medium. Under the guidance of his spiritual leader Alcar he healed many people. He could also help by his healing aura other people who were almost at the end of their earthly life during their last days on earth. As a result of his clairvoyance he could often have contact with these people during and also after their death on earth. In the book ‘The Bridge to Eternal Life’ we read how three of his patients came back to Jozef after their death in order to tell him and humanity about their experiences.

The first patient gave unconditional love during his life to all the people who came to him. His death goes very calmly and modestly, because he as a spiritual personality has already released himself from earthly feelings during his life. We can read in which way his spirit releases itself during death from this earthly body, and how he is ‘collected’ by his dead son. A love which connects souls with each other beyond death.

In the second part Jeanne tells how she is greatly troubled during her death by the sadness of her sister who takes care of her. Her sister wants to keep Jeanne for earthly life, and Jeanne experiences this as ‘resistance’ which makes it difficult for her to say goodbye to the earthly life.

The third part has the following subtitle: ‘The return of someone who mocked what he did not understand’. That ‘someone’ is Gerhard, an acquaintance of Jozef Rulof. Gerhard mocks the idea that a spiritual world could exist. His motto is: ‘dead is dead’ and ‘you must let the dead rest’. Jozef cannot convince him that the dead came to him themselves in order to convince humanity of their divine life. Gerhard is completely closed to this spiritual science.

After his death Gerhard ends up in an astral sphere which has received form as a result of his own closedness. He finds himself locked up in a sort of astral ‘bunker’ where he cannot get out of until he opens himself inwardly to the spiritual truth of a life after death. He must experience to his despair that the astral sphere forms a perfect mirror of his inner feelings.

After his ‘return from the dead’ he tells Jozef about his terrible battle ‘for life and death’ in order to discard his disbelief, his mocking and his closedness. He shouts at the reader to already start spiritual feeling and thinking during the earthly life, in order not to end up in the same misery. By describing his battle he gives us a deep insight into how we can discard our lower characteristics and can open ourselves to the ‘light’ of our own spiritual evolution.

‘The Bridge to Eternal Life’ goes further where the ‘near-death experiences’ end. The book offers the continuation to the experiences of millions of people throughout the whole world who were already able to experience a glimpse of a spiritual life after death.

The Cycle of the Soul

It's Free!

["Jeus" is the call name of Jozef Rulof.]

The first two titles by Jozef Rulof ‘A View into the Hereafter’ and ‘The Bridge to Eternal Life’ present the first principle for the development of our spiritual feeling and thinking: there is life after death. In ‘The Cycle of the Soul’ we become acquainted with the second foundation: reincarnation.

Jozef Rulof received this wonderful novel in three parts from the spirit Lantos. In the first part Lantos tells about his last life on earth, which took place in France during the Middle Ages. As a boy his ‘born’ feeling for art already comes to the fore. He is a celebrated sculptor, but is not happy because he cannot live together with his childhood girlfriend Marianne. When he sees Marianne again in difficult circumstances, he commits a serious crime. As a result of this he ends up in the dungeon. As a result of the exhaustion of his body he becomes more and more sensitive in his prison to the invisible world. The dark intelligences from life after death convince him to commit suicide, since they impress upon him that he will be released from his earthly suffering as a result of this.

Suicide plunged him into deep misery. As a spirit he must experience that he could destroy his body, but not his own life. He lives on as a spirit, but is attached to his earthly body, because he wanted to bring forward his cosmic time for dying by himself. In the book Lantos describes the unbearable suffering which he has created for himself as a result of this. Earthly pain perishes into nothing in comparison with what he must experience by his suicide. And when his suffering came to an end, there was just one urge in him: to ensure that the human being on earth gets to know this spiritual reality in order to prevent unnecessary suffering.

In the second part, which has the subtitle of ‘spiritual life’, Lantos describes his ‘walk’ over the earth, century after century, in order to get to know the human being and to preserve him from his ignorance. He describes how he learns to influence the people on earth as a spirit. By applying inspiration he can help many people and work as a ‘guardian angel’ for them. In addition, he sees that his own ‘aura of light’ increases as he gives more love and really means something for other people in their spiritual evolution. For nine centuries he studies human life on earth as spirit. He summarised the knowledge which he gathered during these centuries in ‘The Cycle of the Soul’. In this way he describes how the soul goes to the world of the unconscious in order to prepare itself for a new birth. In this world the emotional life comes to rest, so that the experiences of the past life do not disturb the development of the embryo in the new life. Lantos describes how the soul connects with the new cell at the moment of fertilisation.

Lantos shows the reader how the human being lives in the consequences of his own past. In the book he analyses deeply ‘the law of cause and effect’. In this way he explains the origin of his own feeling for art, because he sees many previous lives in which he worked to elevate his capabilities in order to create something beautiful. Following the earthly being century after century he sees how our characteristics evolve as a result of actions from previous lives. Lantos describes how this law comes back to our life like a boomerang, until we have brought into harmony what we left behind in disharmony. Lantos is inwardly grateful when he gets to know the justice of this law, and experiences that the human being keeps on getting new life chances in order to work on his inner being and to expand his feeling to universal love.

In the third part of the book Lantos gives us an intriguing image of the being of the twin soul. His inner bond with his childhood love Marianne is the result of many lives in which these twin souls were connected to each other and loved each other. He also feels that he will be connected again with her one day, in order to carry on together in love and harmony for eternity in life after death.

Between Live and Death (Pdf)

‘Between Life and Death’ is the sixth title in the series which Jozef Rulof received mediumistically. The book is a compelling novel about the temple life of the priests of Ancient Egypt. The historically true story takes place in the temple of Isis, approximately 4000 years ago.

Through the book we get to know Dectar as a priest in this temple. This temple life is one of the most important previous lives of Jozef Rulof. In that life he got to know and conquer the magical powers, and in this way laid the basis for his later mediumship. For the life of Jozef Rulof these powers had sunk to his subconscious, but Alcar – the spiritual leader of Jozef – used those powers from the subconscious to build up the mediumship. As a result of his temple lives Jozef could reach a height in mediumship which is seldom shown on earth.

‘Between Life and Death’ gives us a penetrating image of the power of the Ancient Egyptian temples. The priests applied themselves life after life to the controlling of their bodies and their thoughts, so that they were no longer disturbed by anything during their meditations. The book describes their lessons in concentration, and the rock-hard tests which they had to do in order to be accepted as a priest. The book reveals their knowledge about life and death, including a deep analysis of dying, the death as a personality, sleep as entry to the astral life, healings as a result of concentration, and a metaphysical study of the character. All the priests were under the strict control of the high priests. The power of these high priests was unlimited. As a result of their razor-sharp concentration they not only checked all the actions of the priests, but even their thoughts. If a priest developed one thought which was not built up according to the rules of the temple, he was punished painfully for this. If these thoughts were repeated, then he was killed.

In this hell of power and cold concentration one priest is followed in the book, Venry. This priest was a ‘natural talent’ with a rare height of born clairvoyance and power of concentration. Venry felt that the temple stripped of every feeling of love, and he sought a way to bring the temple back to the light. In the temple he also gets to know his twin soul, which strengthened his higher feelings of love and harmony even more. All these feelings brought him, together with his master Dectar, into a struggle of life and death with the supreme high priest Iseués. This struggle was taken to the highest level, to the court of the pharaoh. During the temple meetings Venry disembodied and he received astral and cosmic wisdom from the ‘Goddess of Isis’, who was recorded in ‘Between Life and Death’. The books which Jozef Rulof now received are in fact a continuation of this knowledge. Then the masters could not go further, because the priests wanted to experience themselves and wanted to keep the magic powers in their own hands. Finally the temples fell into the hands of black magic. A few priests remained faithful to their higher ideals and obscured the knowledge, so that it would not fall into the hands of the uninitiated.

In the present time that obscuring is no longer necessary. Now the highest wisdom can be brought to earth, because humanity is faced with spiritual awakening and can employ spiritual knowledge to drive itself to the light. Now the books lie open for every interested party.

Through the Grebbe-line to Eternal Life

It's Free!

Jozef Rulof also received this book mediumistically. He writes in the foreword: ‘The intelligence, who passed this onto me, was brought to me by my leader Alcar. Alcar allowed him to tell about his life, about his dying on the battlefield during the May Days of 1940 and about his entrance into the spiritual world. May this book also help to convince you of your eternal life.’

The spiritual writer who was called ‘Theo’ during his earthly life, was killed as a soldier in the trenches of the Grebbe-line in the Second World War. In the book the writer researches the reason which people give for waging war. The ‘Thou shalt not kill’ of Moses is kept in the light of spiritual science and weighed up against ‘legal self-defence’. Are there situations where you may kill? Are there ‘justifiable grounds’ to be found for firing that shot? Must you let everything happen, or may you fight back? Is an armed action spiritually permissible? Must you fight for your fatherland? Is the example of Christ on Golgotha meaningful, or can ‘exceptions’ be acknowledged? Questions which Theo asked during and after his earthly life, and to which he found an adequate answer to in the spiritual life.

During his earthly life Theo already came into conflict with his own actions. As a professional soldier he trained other soldiers to handle weapons, whilst his conscious told him that you may never kill.

After his death he discovered why he had actually become a soldier, and that the grenade which flung him from his body was no coincidence. That his own life had sought out that grenade in a certain sense.

There he came to the disconcerting realisation that another person lived in his own emotional life. Someone who felt just as ‘familiar’ as his normal personality. Further research taught him that his own past life let itself be felt as a personality. That personality was mesmerised by the question what happens to the soul if it is flung from the body by a shock. This question attached itself completely to his emotional life, and he could no longer become released from it. He had to and would have the answer to this, because otherwise his soul could no longer find any peace. In this way the book points us to the great responsibility of what we aim our feeling at. We are the creators of our own future, more than we realise as human beings, because the causes of our present life situation often lie hidden in previous lives.

In addition to the ‘law of cause and effect’ and reincarnation Theo also describes his own experiences in the areas of spiritualism, faith, marriage and choice of partner, universal love and twin souls.

Both during his life on earth and in the life after death Theo is helped by his father with whom he had a warm bond of friendship. On earth his father was his ‘guardian angel’, in the spiritual life his father is his leader, who shows him the way to the higher spheres of light. Theo describes in the book how seeing inner love between his father and his twin soul meant the greatest driving force for him to master a higher love.

‘Through the Grebbe-line to eternal life’ is an easily accessible book, also to become familiar with the series. The writer is still close to our earthly feeling and thinking, and is very recognisable as a human being in search of the higher.

The Origin of the Universe (Pdf)

The wonderful trilogy ‘The Origin of the Universe’ is the highlight in the first series of five titles which Jozef Rulof received mediumistically from the masters of the light from life after death. This trilogy continues to build on the foundations of spiritual science as they were described and explained in detail in ‘A View into the Hereafter’ (the reality and nature of our spiritual continued existence) and in ‘The Cycle of the Soul’ (the impact of our previous lives on our inner emotional life).

‘The Origin of the Universe’ gives a comprehensive picture of the origin, the development and the destination of all life in the universe, and human life in particular. This picture was given by the highest masters, who made a study of all life, and who could penetrate to the very first origin of life.

As the first perceivable phenomenon in the universe they saw a cosmic life aura. This thin life plasma condensed itself into cosmic mists, from which stars and planets were born. The masters call this first phase in the evolution of the universe the first cosmic grade of life. Primal cells developed on a planet from this first grade of life, which would drive themselves forward in a gigantic evolution process to a human being. The masters speak here of the embryonic stage of the human cell, because this amazing process can still be traced back to the maternal womb on earth. In the trilogy the masters describe where and how the human soul came into being. How this soul already inspired the first cells to expand themselves and to connect with other cells. How in that very first stage the soul already ensured the inspiration of the following life, the following reincarnation. How the amazing combined action between soul and material substance created the formation and construction of the human body, along a gigantic path of development over many planets to finally reach the earth as main planet of the third cosmic grade of life.

In the second part the masters analyse where and how our emotional life came into being. How the experiences of all those previous lives lie stored in our unfathomable subconscious, in order to build up our human conscious from there. How instinct came into being, and how we can rise above that instinct. How we relate physically and spiritually to the animal, and where the split between human being and animal came into being. Where the human soul stayed during the formation of the earth, and how we as a soul came to the earth. How the races and the peoples on earth came into being. How the human being has built up the hereafter himself, the spheres of darkness and light. And how the first souls could already take leave of this third cosmic grade of life, in order to start their journey to the next planet.

In the third part the masters give a revealing picture of life on the planets of the fourth cosmic grade of life, to which every being on earth will evolve one day thanks to reincarnation and the earthly hereafter. The description of this future for all of us is unique and cannot be found in any other book on earth. The masters wanted to give us an idea by this of the real depth of our divine soul, and the place of earthly life in our cosmic evolution.

Spiritual Gifts (Pdf) €.....

‘Spiritual Gifts’ is the seventh title in the series which Jozef Rulof received mediumistically. It was written by master Zelanus, whom we got to know as Lantos in the third title ‘The Cycle of the Soul’. Master Zelanus is the highest astral pupil of master Alcar, Jozef’s spiritual guide. Zelanus studied life on earth and in the hereafter for nine centuries, and ‘Spiritual Gifts’ contains his deep analysis of parapsychological phenomena and powers.

In this book master Zelanus gives a detailed analysis of all the grades of mediumship. All the gifts which Jozef Rulof possessed are explained in detail in just as many chapters: writing mediumship, speaking under inspiration, the psychic trance, mediumistic painting and drawing, spiritual clairvoyance and the healing medium. In addition, the following supernatural phenomena, among others, are treated: communication with the cross and board and the planchette, spiritual photography, direct voice, materialisations and dematerialisations, levitation, apports, rappings and ghost phenomena. In addition, the grades of human sleep are analysed in great detail and in a clear way. Our sleep appears to be the gate to all the grades of mediumship. The role of the physical body in achieving parapsychological phenomena is also treated in detail.

The term ‘gifts’ has a significant meaning. Master Zelanus makes it clear to us that the masters of the light keep all astral wisdom and powers in their own hands, and ‘give’ their message to the medium who is open to this. The writer indicates that the astral world takes the initiative for this, and not the medium. If the human being on earth has just one thought or wish to receive spiritual wisdom that already disturbs the mediumship, because the human being is then thinking himself and can therefore not be a pure channel for the divine wisdom which the masters want to pass on. Master Zelanus reports in the book about dozens of people whom he followed astrally, and they thought that they received astral messages. Most people were busy themselves, without realising it. They asked questions, and their own unfathomable subconscious gave them the answers.

Master Zelanus assigns this high-handed wanting to possess the occult powers to the ‘Oriental’ mentality. In the book he follows the fakir from the East, the white and the black magician, and the Oriental initiated. All of them want to use the occult powers for their own interest, as a result of which they close themselves off to divine wisdom. They cannot therefore exceed their own thinking and feeling, so that they cannot equal the level of a high-minded Western medium, however wonderful and ‘artful’ they are in their own area. However, the East comes to the West, and in the Western countries many people also assume the occult powers and set themselves up as healers and channels for higher energies. In ‘Spiritual Gifts’ master Zelanus gives the ultimate key to be able to make the distinction as a reader between a true and a high-principled mediumship, and the messing about of the many charlatans. However, deception in this area is so dreadfully great that the sober being rightly no longer wishes to know anything more about all that spiritual carry-on. ‘Spiritual Gifts’ separates the light from the darkness in this. In order to understand this penetrating book properly it is advisable to first read ‘A View into the Hereafter’ and ‘The Origin of the Universe’

The painting mediumship of Jozef Rulof €....

‘The painting mediumship of Jozef Rulof’ contains a unique collection of drawings, water colours and paintings of one of the greatest mediums of the twentieth century, Jozef Rulof. Jozef said that he did not paint himself, but that his body was taken over by spiritual painters who died on earth. These painters wanted to show the world by means of his body as a human ‘medium’ that they are still alive and that they have kept their talent for painting.

Despite the fact that Jozef Rulof did not receive any education whatsoever in art, in this album you can see a rich diversity of painting styles, each developed individually to a great height. According to Jozef this remarkable diversity and depth can be traced back to the different ‘masters in art’ who could bring their art to earth again after their death as a result of his mediumship.

In his conscious daily life Jozef exhibited no talent for art, but in a trance state a spiritual master took control of his body, while his spirit went to the other side. Thus was produced art of extraordinary quality, often in total darkness or while painted upside down.

Some people who have attended expositions of his works describe mystical experiences that resulted. He did many paintings while in the United States and had several exhibitions at leading New York City galleries.

The painting mediumship of Jozef Rulof is not an isolated skill. In addition to the many hundreds of paintings, as a medium he received more than 10.000 pages of text from the spiritual world. These dozens of books give an universal explanation about ‘life’ in all its aspects. They throw a clear light on the symbolism – with universal love as the most important theme – which has been depicted in the paintings. The album contains many quotations from these books to give you the ‘spiritual eyes’ in order to penetrate and feel the meaning of these beautiful works of art even deeper.

If I can reach one of you and may convince you of your eternal life, this work
and my art have not been in vain and all my efforts have been rewarded.

Jozef Rulof (1898-1952)

jozef1.jpg

Jozef Rulof was born in 1898 in 's-Heerenberg, a village in the eastern part of the Netherlands.

From the time of his birth onwards, he appeared to be a very sensitive child, who perceived matters which are not seen by other people.

It will soon became clear that this sensitivity is of essential importance for the rest of his life.

From elementary education at primary school he took in very little.

As a child he preferred to let his mind wander through fields and woods, accompanied by a personality emanating light, who was not seen by other people, but was just as real to him as his father and mother.

This being said it was a master in life after death and it was under his power that as a young child he could already make predictions and heal sick people by the laying on of hands.

levensharp.jpg

After he had settled in The Hague at the beginning of the nineteen-twenties, his master Alcar took his life completely into his hands and he developed into a clairvoyant person, with gifted hearing, gifted feeling, with healing powers, and into a writing and painting medium.

In this, his master had one aim in view, to develop his medium to obtain the 'Great Wings', the conscious leaving of  the body.

In this way Jozef Rulof was able to make many journeys under the guidance of his master.

In addition to life on the other side, he also travelled the whole of the earth, and saw the worldly life as a spirit, as result of which all doors were unlocked to him.

All his experiences and his insights obtained as a result of this were recorded in his books.

Writer

Volumes could be filled about this outstanding writing mediumship alone.

If you want to have a good picture of the development of Jozef Rulof as a writing medium, we advise you to read the trilogy 'Jeus of mother Crisje'.

Here we will limit ourselves to giving a quotation from the third part of this trilogy:

...I (master Zelanus) have been connected to Jeus since his birth.

So I know his emotional life and know what to do about it.

But master Alcar himself is occupied with laying new foundations for the writing.

Jeus now gradually sinks into a deeper trance, we can only write between the fourth and fifth level of sleep, before this point it is still under inspiration.

Jeus has come to that point through Wolff, through painting.

Now we are confronting him with the most difficult part, which is the easiest part for us, that is, we want to begin immediately on the typewriter.

After all, the pen is a part of yourself, you control that, the typewriter is not and is more difficult for a writer, for others it is a means of being able to concentrate freely away from everything and every contact, because the pen has a direct influence on the emotional life, it is a means which reacts directly  to your thoughts, but can not be any inspiration whatsoever.

Because you have learned and done that since you were a child, you are influenced by your pen as a means of writing and we want to prevent that.

So Jeus buys a typewriter for twenty-five guilders, a nice old one, and he does not know what to do with it, but we do.

He has never sat behind a typewriter before.

You must undoubtedly feel that we are deliberately taking him away from his own knowledge and capabilities, the less he knows, the better we can work through him.

You know about his youth, his time at school and what he learned in society amounts to nothing, he learned nothing, nothing in order to be able to write now, he does not understand a thing about language!

He cannot do it, he does not know how to either, he did not learn it and now we are even taking his pen away, he may not be able to do anything

for himself and it is the most difficult thing for him, but it will be convenient for us, now we are not faced with his materially learned possession

from your world.

Whatever that writing is like in the beginning is not important, if master Alcar can lay down the real occult through Jeus, that will be everything,

the finishing touches for the material part will come later.

Style and art are not considered, that will come later...

And so this simple human child writes about:

'Where is humanity heading, if it exchanges the temporary for the eternal?'

In the Hereafter he experiences that many people remain on earth, shackled to their material thoughts and feelings.

Other people have to temporarily accept their residence in the dark realms, because they had also lost themselves during their earthly life in dark feelings and actions.

Along with his master, he also follows people who may complete their journey to the realms of light. In the heavenly realms he sees how family members and friends see each other again, and build on their lives in harmony and love.

When he descends into his earthly body again after these spiritual journeys, he only has one feeling: record these experiences in books,so that people can read about the hereafter, death, reincarnation, the origin of the universe and much more.

In the first book 'A View into the Hereafter' the masters make it clear that human thinking has been standing still for 2000 years:

Western world people still do not know the spiritual life, and the people left behind stand at the grave of their loved ones weeping until their tears run dry.

It is extremely necessary that they know that life is eternal, and is evolving with certainty to a higher level.

Cosmic Painter

The highest results could be achieved by Jozef Rulof through the 'psychic trance'.

This is the state in which he had left his physical body and had lent it to a spiritual painter.

In this way Jozef Rulof received more than 1.000 spiritual paintings, which were done on cloth and panel as well as porcelain plates.

They are one by one wonderful symbols.

The masters of the other side deepened the psychic trance of Jozef Rulof through painting.

As a result of this they could develop him as a speaking medium.

Exhibitions are organised by the Foundation with a certain regularity in the Netherlands and  Belgium, in order to bring interested parties into contact with these wonderful works of art..
levensbokaal_met_bloemen.jpg

During the years 1946/1947/1948 Jozef Rulof was staying in the U.S.A.

He gave lectures there (Carnegie Hall) and several demonstrations/exhibitions of painting.

See also the beautiful http://www.theageofchrist.com/jozefrulof/NL/kunst.html 'The painting mediumship of Jozef Rulof'.

It contains a unique collection of drawings, water colours and paintings of one of the greatest mediums of the twentieth century, Jozef Rulof.

57lez.jpg

       Speaker

In trance - on July 25th 1945 - Jozef Rulof gave his first public lecture while in a trance.

That day, in a crowded hall of Diligentia a well-known theather in The Hague Holland, master Alcar opened the 'Age of Christ' with: '

The word that

will now come to you is not from your world.

Prepare yourself for revelations, you will experience prophecies.

Those who speak to you come in the name of God ...'

Jozef Rulof had then developed to such an extent that, for the first time in the history of mankind, a master from the Hereafter could address human beings directly.

After this was reported in various daily newspapers, there was tremendous interest.

People stood in long queues in front of the entrance to the Diligentia building in The Hague.

There was so much interest that the police had to intervene and a lot of people were turned away in the end.

Apparently, people were expecting great and spectacular sensations, which was far from what happened, however; at least, as far as people were expecting an outward show, this was not the case at all.

After Jozef Rulof had come on stage, master Alcar took over his body and the words from the Hereafter immediately resounded purely and clearly throughout the hall.

These words were a witness to the great certainty and serious peace of this Cosmically Aware Personality.

Therefore no sensation, but deep spiritual wisdom, such as had never materialised on earth after Christ.

The people who were open to this felt the supremacy of this unique event and reached unity from emotion to emotion.

 bloemen_in_rood_.jpg

In the period from 1945 to autumn 1952, more than 850 public lectures were given, in which the masters treated many subjects related to spiritual awakening.

It was possible to save a number of lectures on tape and to transcribe them.

The spoken texts have been recorded word for word in a number of textbooks (in translation).

Jozef Rulof consciously left his body by means of the 'psychic trance'.

A form of trance which occurs very rarely on earth.

Everything we read in the books was first seen and experienced by Jozef Rulof.

As a result of this there is a very strong construction of knowledge and wisdom in the series of books,

related to how he processed this as a medium.

So the evolution which is built up from the first book 'A View into the Hereafter' to the last works written is tremendous.

The level of experience, analysis and consciousness is increased book by book, so that the reader can grow with it.

Every new concept is continually accompanied by a beautiful description and an explanatory story, so that we can enter this wonderful world step by step.

This is why the masters advise us to read the books in the proper sequence, so that we are not overwhelmed with

information which we cannot place.

 Thou Shalt Not Kill

There is no power in Death

Nothing in the world creates as much anxiety for people as the fear of death. In the works of Jozef Rulof this topic is constantly visited and it is and systematically explained why the church is to blame for this misconception. The church constantly speaks about hellfire and eternal damnation. They cling to an image of God that is manifested out of their own unconscious brain, to suppress their congregations by putting the “fear of God” into them. The church neither knows nor understands God or Creation. By reading Jozef Rulof’s books, fear for death disappears and it becomes evident that death does not exist and that we are not subject to eternal damnation. We are also made aware of the fact that we do not only experience one life… but have experienced millions. We learn about a God of Love and that everyone, without exception, through His Righteousness and Justice, by way of reincarnation, is allowed the opportunity to correct the mistakes made in thousands of incarnations. Everyone whether past, present or future, who experiences life on Earth, is here to correct their previous mistakes. No one is exempt. The Christ stated: “Ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven until you have paid every last penny”.
Therefore: It is not God who is at fault here for our suffering, for God is Love. It is we who are responsible for our own suffering! Did not the Christ say?
“Know ye not that ye are gods” God resides in each of us with all of our past life experiences attached to our current existence. We will be reborn in the environment suited to providing us the opportunity to make amends to someone who we have previously wronged. We will meet them again.
In our final incarnation on Earth we will have corrected all of our misdeeds and leave a legacy for all mankind to help and support them. Once we awaken in the Hereafter, we begin anew to develop within ourselves the Divine Love and consciousness until we reach our goal, which is to arrive in the ALL, where we will become as God IS.
